Old Bund

The Old Bund is located at the Sanjiangkou, the very heart of Ningbo, with a history 20 years longer than that of the Shanghai Bund. Today, the Old Bund still preserves a large number of beautiful European-style old buildings, most of which have been converted into stylish bars and restaurants, forming a quite cozy leisure area. Similar to the Shanghai Bund yet more exquisite, it’s a delightful place to stroll around, take photos of the old architecture, or sit down in a small shop for a drink.

The architecture of the Old Bund is also a major highlight. Though visitors are not allowed to enter these buildings, their exteriors alone are full of charm. Whether day or night, the Gothic-style Jiangbei Catholic Church to the south is always the focus of tourists. The adjacent ruined wall, which evokes a faint resemblance to the Old Summer Palace, is the symbol of the Old Bund. Around the church stand many distinctive historic buildings, including Hede Fang, Hetai Fang, Zilin Fang, Hongchangyuan Hao (Old Bund Branch) and the Jiangbei Police Station.

Another attraction worth visiting is the Zhu’s Residence, a shikumen architectural complex situated at the intersection of Yangshan Road and Zhongbei Road. Combining Western-style carvings with traditional Ningbo dwellings, it features door frames made of meiyu red stone, paired with heavy black lacquered wooden doors and a pair of copper knockers, presenting a very unique and elegant look.

In addition, you can visit the Ningbo Urban Planning Exhibition Hall to the north of the street. Here, you can experience Ningbo’s past and future through 3D virtual demonstrations, which brings an amazing immersive feeling.
